Edward V. Smith

Ed is Of Counsel to the firm and specializes in estate planning, estate administration, contested trusts and estates, and estate litigation. He believes that everyone should have an estate plan tailored to their individual needs. Ed’s clients have taught him that family dynamics are unique to each individual. Some families need to share their concerns with each other; while, in other families, family members need to be protected from each other. Ed treats all situations and all clients with wisdom, tact, and diplomacy. Ed’s clients are all persons he is comfortable bringing home for dinner.

Ed has received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of North Texas and the SMU School of Law. Ed is also the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, Probate Section, Dallas Bar Association (2006) and the Morris Harrell Award for Professionalism, Texas Center for Legal Ethics and Dallas Bar Association (2006).

Ed is an avid traveler with his wife, Nikki DeShazo. He is also the author (written under his pen name Hawthorne Vance) of two suspense novels, The Saracen’s Golden Armor and The Deadly Dying.
